| William Thompson was an Irish-born Pennsylvanian who served as a brigadier general in the Revolutionary War. He led a corps of sharpshooters from Pennsylvania to Boston after the Battle of Bunker Hill, and was officially thanked by George Washington. Later, he commanded a detachment of 2,000 men in the 1776 invasion of Canada. |
